I started out with guitar lessons as an eight-year-old. I began playing bass at age fourteen when some older kids shoved one in my hands saying "play this thing and you can be in our band". At sixteen I was playing bass in rock bands at high school dances, college parties, and bars. What a long strange trip it’s been.
Coming out of the haze, I went to college and got involved in the entertainment industry from some other angles......all the while practicing and developing as a musician. Through years of experience working behind the scenes in film special effects, or as a lighting tech on the sets of major motion pictures, commercials and TV shows, as well as rock videos, I’ve developed a vast knowledge of "the business".
I’ve played countless gigs with countless bands in and around the NYC area at venues such as The Bitter End, The Bottom Line, The Knitting Factory, The Elbow Room, and The Lions Den as well as clubs, cafes and colleges all over the Northeast U.S. Some notable artists I’ve worked with in recent years are singer/songwriter Judith Zwieman, rock n’ roller Andy James, funky jazzy jam band Flying Colors, as well as regional touring with jam rock band Tycoon Dog.
Currently, I’m fortunate to be surrounded with excellent professional musicians while working in a very original rock project with renowned cellist Von Cello. I’ve just recorded with Raven, a lady who writes, sings and plays beautiful acoustic blues and folk from the heart. I regularly enjoy playing jazz standards with the Castle Jazz Trio at some of Long Island’s most exclusive catering halls. Additionally, I’ve begun pre-production on the next recording of extraordinary guitarist Jeff Curtis who creates an transcendent blend of classical guitar and finger-pickin’ country.
I’ve studied privately with bass guru Patrick Pfeiffer for much of the last decade and have been involved with several jazz workshops. I listen to an extremely wide range of music and gotten into learning and playing lines and grooves from James Brown, Ron Carter, Beatles, The Meters, Motown, Cream, G. Dead, Bluegrass, Tower of Power, Reggae, Hip hop, 70’s Funk n’Disco, RnB + DnB ....the list goes on and on. I’m able to play walking lines through most Real Book standards as well as solo over chord changes.
I can play one good note, lay down a phat grooooove, or improv like crazy. Whatever the song and the moment calls for.
